The Tesla Wall Connector is Tesla’s recommended home charging solution, delivering up to 48 amps of Level 2 charging to compatible vehicles and integrating with the Tesla app for charge scheduling and energy monitoring. It requires a hardwired dedicated 240-volt circuit from the electrical panel to the installation location. Our licensed electricians install Tesla Wall Connectors with panel capacity assessment, correct circuit sizing, weatherproof installation where required, permit filing, and final inspection included in the quoted price.

Tesla Wall Connector Installation — Everything You Need to Know

From amperage requirements and panel capacity to permit requirements and installation timelines — here’s what homeowners need to know about Tesla Wall Connector installation before requesting service.

What the Installation Involves

Installation begins with a panel assessment to confirm capacity for the Wall Connector’s 60-amp circuit breaker requirement. The Wall Connector can be configured to operate at lower amperage if panel capacity is limited, but peak performance requires a dedicated 60-amp circuit. We run the appropriate wire from the panel to the installation location, mount the Wall Connector, make the hardwired connection, configure the amperage setting, and test the unit through a charge initiation before signing off the job.

Tesla NACS and Older Vehicles

Tesla vehicles manufactured after mid-2023 use the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, which the Wall Connector connects to directly. Older Tesla vehicles use the proprietary Tesla connector. Non-Tesla EVs can use the Wall Connector with a NACS-to-J1772 adapter. For non-Tesla EV owners who want a future-compatible installation, we can install a NEMA 14-50 outlet instead, which accepts any J1772 plug-in Level 2 charger and provides hardware flexibility as standards continue to evolve.

Power Sharing Feature

Multiple Tesla Wall Connectors can share a single circuit using Tesla’s power sharing feature.

  • Two units share one 60-amp circuit
  • Power sharing configured at install
  • Each unit needs data link cable
  • Panel sized for multi-unit

Outdoor Weatherproof Install

The Tesla Wall Connector is rated for indoor and outdoor installation, but outdoor mounting requires correct weatherproofing of the wiring entry point and appropriate cable protection from the panel to the unit. We use liquid-tight flexible conduit for all outdoor cable runs exposed to the elements and seal all penetrations to prevent moisture intrusion.

  • Outdoor-rated mounting verified
  • Liquid-tight conduit used
  • Penetrations sealed for moisture
  • Function tested at completion
  • Fixed quote before work begins

Here’s what homeowners say about our Tesla Wall Connector installation service. Every review is from a verified customer in Southern California.

★★★★★
“Level 2 charger installed in my garage. They confirmed I had enough panel capacity without an upgrade and ran clean conduit along the wall studs. Done in about three hours — inspected and ready the same day.”

“Needed a panel upgrade before the charger could go in. They combined both into a single project — panel in the morning, charger in the afternoon. One permit, one fixed price, done in a day.”

“Two 50-amp circuits for two EVs in our garage. Both chargers work perfectly, the conduit runs are clean, and the panel handled the added load without a problem.”
